This is a small site that does one thing: it tells you about a game being made, and lets you leave an email address if you want to hear about it. These terms are written to match that, and nothing more.
dragongate.studio is operated by Dragon Gate Studio Ltd. (“we,” “us”), a Canadian company. By using this site you accept these terms; by joining the mailing list you accept them and our Privacy Policy. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use the site or join the list.
Dragon Gate Studio is making Beyond the Gates of Kunlun, a roleplaying game of cultivation and the Strange, in two ways: a tabletop game of pen, paper, and dice, and the living game — the same world and the same rules, run by AI. Both are in development.
This site is informational. Nothing on it is for sale, and joining the mailing list buys you nothing and commits you to nothing. Anything we describe here about the game is a description of work in progress, not a promise of a feature, a release, or a date. Plans change while a game is being made, and ours will.
If you give us your email address, we’ll write to you occasionally about the game — a few times a year at most. You can leave at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by writing to [email protected]. We ask that the address you give us is one you’re entitled to use.
We may close the list, change how often we write, or stop writing altogether. Being on the list doesn’t entitle you to early access, to a copy of the game, or to anything else.
You must be at least 16 to join the mailing list. Our Discord community follows Discord’s own minimum age of 13. If we learn that someone below these ages has signed up, we’ll remove them.
Please don’t:
If you do, we may block your access and remove your data.
Our Discord server is a separate place with its own rules, posted there, and it also sits under Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. We moderate it, and we can remove posts or remove people from it, at our discretion. What you post there is yours; by posting it you give us permission to display it within the server and to quote it in dev-logs or other studio communications, with attribution to your handle. Tell us if you’d rather we didn’t, and we won’t.
The text, artwork, logos, design, and code on this site belong to Dragon Gate Studio Ltd. or are used with permission. Beyond the Gates of Kunlun and the Dragon Gate Studio name and mark are trademarks of Dragon Gate Studio Ltd., registered or otherwise.
You’re welcome to link to the site, quote a reasonable extract with credit, and share it. Please don’t reproduce the artwork or wholesale copy the site’s content, and please don’t use our name or marks in a way that suggests we endorse or are involved in something we aren’t.
The site relies on Cloudflare for hosting, Mailchimp for the mailing list, Google for analytics and fonts, and Discord for the community. It also links to places we don’t run. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, we don’t control them, and we aren’t responsible for them. Our Privacy Policy sets out what each one handles.
We may run a crowdfunding campaign for the game. If we do, it will live on a crowdfunding platform, and the relationship between us and anyone who backs it will be governed by that platform’s terms and by the campaign’s own terms — not by this page. Nothing here is an offer to sell anything or a solicitation of funds.
The site is provided as it is. We don’t promise it will always be available, error-free, or accurate, and we don’t give any warranty about it beyond what the law requires us to give.
To the extent the law allows, Dragon Gate Studio Ltd. is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of this site or the mailing list.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law — including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence — and nothing in them removes any right you have as a consumer under the law of the place where you live.
We may change these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell subscribers by email before it takes effect and update the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the change; if you’d rather not, unsubscribe.
These terms, and anything arising out of them, are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of British Columbia have non-exclusive jurisdiction, which means either of us may also bring a claim somewhere else where the law permits it.
If you are a consumer, this clause does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or of your right to bring proceedings in the courts of that country.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If we don’t enforce something straight away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later. Together with the Privacy Policy, this page is the whole agreement between us about this site and the mailing list. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another company if the studio is sold or reorganised; your rights are unaffected.
